Report: The best condition to grow molds on the bread
by Cherry Park
There is nothing worse than finding a moldy piece of fruit in the bottom of a bag. We can find a lot of molds in our surroundings, why we can see grow molds in many places? When a spore of molds moving in air, when they saw there’s a good condition to live, they will grow. When it is too much it can affect the health of our body and destroy building materials such as the wood or board in our homes. So it is good for us to know what the best condition to grow molds so that we can know how to prevent it from growing. For example, by the side of parking lot, inside of garbage can and we can also see a lot of molds after rain. There are three essentials in order for molds to grow. The first one is water; the best condition to grow molds is when the place is wet or moist, all living organisms require water to maintain synthesis. Like, Rains make place wet, moist and grow molds fast without sunshine, which is why we can see a lot of molds in parking lot on summer after rain. The second essential is food. Molds grow a lot on food due to food itself provides the nutrients and water the mold needs in order to grow. Molds like slight acid in food or drink, example: milk or Juice. The third essential is optimum temperatures. Molds spores thrive in temperatures 32 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Molds come in all sizes, shapes and a range of colors from black to orange, blue to white and yellow to green. Blue molds make duster shape’s blue spore top on the spawn and make foods to decay but it is raw material in penicillin (kinds of medicine). Aspergilla’s make shape of a fan yellow spore top on the spawn use to make alcoholic drink, soy sauce, etc. bread molds kind of red mold, make to decay breads and smut virus is parasitic on corn, an ear of rice. Molds can also be distinctive by their texture and profiles; some are flat looking while others appear to have hairs or a bumpy appearance to them. Mold is made up of tiny microscopic organisms that are found everywhere, indoors and outdoors. And mold spores are spread throughout the air when blown or disturbed from the surface in anyway from which they have attached themselves.
Most people might have mistaken for molds are bad, but actually not all kinds of molds are bad. There are many thousands of different species of this fungi worldwide however, a very large percentage of these molds are harmless to humans. For example, there is a lot of food or medicine that is made with molds. Bread and alcoholic drink are also made from molds. And some molds clean up earth’s garbage, disassemble plastic, dead trees, purification water, and make ground to fertile. That means in certain part of our life, we need molds. But how can we obstruct or prepare to grow least harmful molds?
I wanted to know more about molds, So I choose my science testable question as “what is the best condition to grow molds” When we know when and how the molds grow then we are able to control the growing of molds to the necessary range. I’m now observing how molds grow on breads. I prepared breads and put into different kinds of liquid such as, water with salt, water with sugar, milk, and just water. I place these things at the same place, same temperature, same type of breads and same observation time. And my hypothesis is the bread in milk with grows faster compare to other bread.
